Tying Notes: Instructions for making the Floating Dumbbell Eyes are found
in the
New Concept Minnow Article. This pattern can be tied two ways. If tied as a Clouser
Minnow with the belly on the back of the hook, the imitation will float belly-up
imitating a dead shad. If tied with the belly within the bend of the hook, the
imitation
will float belly-down. When fishing for large Brown Trout behind Bull
Shoals Dam
during the shad kill, I prefer the belly-up version. In the lake and
other places
fishing for Largemouth Bass, I prefer the belly-down version.
Important Notes: Threadfin Shad “Winter Kills” happen most often in the
northern portions of its range when water temperatures fall below 41 degrees.
