Distribution: Found from Newfoundland in the St. Lawrence River to Florida, and has been introduced into the Pacific from California to Alaska.
Habitat: An anadronomus specie that only enters freshwater rivers along the coast to spawn.
Spawning Period: April- June when water temperature is 50-55 degrees.
Spawning Habitat: At sunset, in shallow water in the mouth of a creek.
Important Notes: Young-of-the-year stay in the streams and rivers throughout the summer, then migrate to the sea in the fall.
