Tying Fox Statler's Dead-Drifter Sowbugs
After 54 years of flyfishing, 35 years of fly tying, and more than 26 years of guiding, Willow Ford, owned by Fox Statler, knows what works. Fox has tried to fill the pages of this site with good articles on fly tying, fly designing, helpful tips, new ideas, old ideas that still work, and lots of reasons why he does what he does, and why it works. Examples of this are the graphite handles on his rods, the HPU Patterns, New Concept Minnow, and stuff like this. His articles are listed in the column on the far left of every page and what is for sale is in the column to the far right. Fox has tried his best to give you the very latest creations and ideas.
We are producing our own tying DVD's. The first one is Fox's River Bottom Colored Sculpin. This is the sculpin pattern that appeared in the 2004, March issue of Fly Fisherman Magazine. You might say our DVD's are "homemade". We decided not to go the expense of having all the frills and hoop-la. Instead we wanted to make a DVD that any fly tyer could afford. We think its okay for you to watch Fox tie and make a few little mistakes or forget to say something that he remembers later. The point of our DVD's is for you to feel like you are in Fox's tying room and you are watching him tie. We have already decided to make the second DVD on his Spinner'd Minner pattern, then his new HPU Brite-Eyed Shiners, then the Mudbugs, his Anatomically Correct Minnow Patterns, New Concept Minnows, his tailrace patterns (Sowbugs, Scuds, Oligochaete Worms, Worm Scuds, Planarians, K.F.C. Emergers, etc.) and some brand new ideas like Flyggs and Pen-Head jigs. And Fox has ventured into another idea worth mentioning, No Boundary Fishin. We will make a DVD on this too.
Fox plans to write some more articles and if the magazines don't want to publish them...well then...we are sure other fishing site will like to have them. He really doesn't care about making a ton of money on them as long as he betters your understanding of fishing. Fox thinks, "The two best pattern that you take fishing - are wisdom and experience - they always catches the most fish."
Willow Ford is about helping you become a better fisherman, tier, and conservationist. We hope to expand your vision of fishing, fill your mind with curiosity about the realm of "fishdom", and create a better understanding of nature as a whole. So make a selection on our navigation bar and begin a journey in fishin' that you haven't taken before. We might change your fishin' for the better and forever.
